Websites made with Google Business Profiles to be turned off
Websites made with Google Business Profiles are basic websites powered by the information on your Business Profile. In March 2024, websites made with Google Business Profiles will be turned off and customers visiting your site will be redirected to your Business Profile instead. The redirect will work until June 10, 2024 at which time the page will return a ‘404 Not Found’ error.
What does it mean?
If you’ve been relying solely on Google for your web presence, it’s time to take matters into your own hands! Google will be shutting down your website leaving only your business profile. Your profile may still be returned in search results, but without a website you have no input over your rankings and your placement in search results is certain to take a big hit. What’s more if a customer lands on a 404 Error page when searching for your business they may will think that you’ve gone out of business. Your hard earned client may then search for alternatives and land on your competitors website instead.
This is why you’ll always hear us talking about the benefit of owning your web presence. It’s a dangerous practice to ‘build your kingdom on someone elses land’. Google’s actions in removing Business Profile Websites is only one example of what can happen when you choose to use free platforms. Imagine if Facebook, Instagram and TikTok chose to restrict or remove your presence there. Let that sink in! How would you attract and engage with customers then?
